Basic Purpose:
Develops automation welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment utilizing knowledge of production specifications and engineering principles. Assist the sales force in winning orders by providing quality proposals that demonstrate our understanding of the customer requirements. This role includes extensive investigation into the customers’ product(s), their method of manufacturing that product and an understanding of the equipment we offer to make them a more efficient and competitive manufacturer. Solutions must be offered with a keen eye on cost to the customer to help us become selected.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide technical expertise required for design, weld process, integration and installation of robotic welding cells.
2. Analyze project design to estimate cycle and weld time.
3. Evaluate project definition to formulate conceptual design and technical requirements, including analyzing the project for its technical feasibility regarding engineering, and cost implications. Draw on personal technical expertise to assist and guide team personnel in accomplishing project commitment.
4. Provide inputs to Engineering, Manufacturing and Ellison Technologies Automation management as appropriate to inform them of findings that are significant to designing or developing improved or new products. These may range from excerpts of trip reports to specifically written memos or oral conversations. These must include any performance or functional problems or product quality concerns.
5. Provide guidance and support in the areas of welding (i.e., program development, trouble shooting, etc.).
6. Maintain a strong understanding of the products that we offer through periodic training and hands on exposure to the equipment so that it’s capabilities are well understood.
7. Become proficient in the use of all of our engineering tools i.e. AutoCad 2D and Inventor, Simpro. Word, Excel, Project.
8. Manage all data for the execution of the application per the agreed upon format i.e. file storage on servers, archival of data etc.
9. Provide simulation time studies when needed.
10. Use standard forms for proposals and costing.
11. Make sure that we have all necessary information about an application so that we can provide accurate proposals. This will sometimes mean that you will have to “pull” information out of a customer. Remember that a customer may not have any experience with automation so they may not know what critical information is, and what is not.
12. Work with 3rd party vendors to spec out equipment needed for the application.
13. Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Education, Experience, Skills, Licenses, and Other Requirements:
1. Education And/Or Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Weld Engineering or equivalent; minimum of five years related experience with an emphasis in welding technology; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Reasonable accommodation may be made if given 2 weeks notice with individuals with disabilities or foreign language to perform essential functions.
3. Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
4. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
5. Licenses and Other Requirements:
a. WS certified.
