Purpose of Position
Manages the design and engineering records teams within the engineering organization, ensuring all project schedules are met and maintained; provides leadership and vision in the area of computer-aided design to ensure consistent procedures and standards are enforced; and provides technical expertise to aid in the development, implementation and training of CAD standards.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
Manages and provides technical guidance to the as-built design, documentation, and record-keeping function in the engineering department.
Provides technical guidance and training to the design staff, both direct/indirect, and contract personnel to ensure consistent application of design standards and quality control in support of engineering projects.
Supervises and reviews section activities related to the computer-aided design (CAD) system in the production of engineering drawings; completion of as-built drawings; creation of maps, exhibits and special graphics.
Provides technical assistance and delegates work responsibilities to employees in order to accomplish specific related projects within company guidelines.
Coordinates with information technology personnel the installation, configuration and customization of AutoCAD and related support applications for all users; coordinate creation of CAD package installation images and content.
Assures implementation of sound design/drafting principles and procedures in accordance with project, engineering, company and governmental requirements, standards and/or codes.
Coordinates with information technology personnel the management of CAD vendors and maintenance of CAD software inventory.
Develops and recommends specifications for new or replacement printers, plotters, scanners and other hardware required by department.
Reports status of department and projects to senior director. Reviews and approves recommendations relative to technical improvements, manpower requirements, equipment requirements and personnel selection.
Develops and tracks expenditures for the capital and O&M budgets for the department.
Participates in task forces, conferences and training sessions to streamline or re-engineer internal/external processes as required.
Serves as a member of Association of Information and Image Management (AIIM) and other industry related associations as required.
Performs administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the department, including employee safety, selection and development of employees, salary administration, budget administration, employee counseling and motivation, organization goals and objectives and planning, organizing, integrating, measuring and reporting the work performed within the department.
Performs any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Position Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field, or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor’s degree.)
Ten to fifteen years of related experience in gas pipeline engineering/construction, including three years supervisory/management experience.
Strong analytical ability, a good interpersonal and human relation skills. Demonstrate good leadership and effective facilitation skills.
Demonstrate good judgment in problem solving and decision-making, with ability to take action or commit oneself appropriately.
In-depth working knowledge of the CAD environment and Envision Document Management System.
Extensive experience with and/or knowledge in engineering and operations related, codes, standards and procedures, i.e. (DOT, FERC, OSHA, NNG, etc.).
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills. Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple issues and projects concurrently.
Ability to meet schedules and responsibilities set at higher management levels.
Knowledge of administrative functions applicable to NNG operations.
Excellent PC skills, including familiarity with Windows environment, must be proficient in Microsoft Office application.
Adept at working within NNG to create, enhance or implement new services and products.
Ability to remain continuously abreast of rapidly changing technical systems utilized internally and externally in the industry.
Ability to make periodic field trips to operations technical office facilities or other sites as required.
In-depth working knowledge of gas pipeline industry and NNG systems preferred, but not required.
